In fact I find them a huge turnoff…
Got an email recently from Lorrie Morgan-Ferrero, and to be honest it made me want to gag.
The thing is that I own Lorrie’s Red Hot Copy program and have taken her bootcamp and it’s great stuff! But this is enough to make me not want to buy from her again…
Here’s what the email said:
“It’s Embarrassing to Admit, But I Think My Mom Has Finally Gone Bonkers”
From Chase Morgan, youngest son of Lorrie Morgan-Ferrero
Hi,
This is Chase, Lorrie’s 13 year old son. I’m writing to you today because I’m concerned. I think my Mom has finally gone off the deep end.
See she usually works in her upstairs office at night while my brother and I read before going to bed. But last night we heard her complaining louder and louder that she just can’t find anything anymore. She said, “That’s IT! I’m getting rid of
it all. There’s no more room in my computer for those pesky electrons…”
(Okay, so she didn’t exactly use the word “pesky” but I’m just a kid and can’t repeat what she really said.)
We couldn’t believe what we heard next. She announced she’s having a half-price clearance sale. A CLEARANCE SALE! (I mean like I said, I’m just a kid, but even I know selling electrons isn’t going to give her more room in her computer. But once my Mom has an idea in her head there’s no stopping her…)
— the email went on but that’s where i stopped reading
I mean give me a break… are you telling me that Lorrie’s 13 year old son really snuck down to his mom’s computer one night, whipped up this letter and mailed it off without her knowledge?
Anything is possible, but I seriously doubt that’s what happened.
I find this kind of email to be a HUGE turnoff… for the simple fact that it’s not a ‘real’ email from a ‘real’ person. It’s an obvious marketing ploy that left a bad taste in my mouth.
And i’m sure they teach this marketing strategy in various places cause i’ve seen it before… getting emails from people’s spouses, kids, partners and even pets. Perhaps they work, but it lacks authenticity and runs the risk of damaging the relationship with people on your list.
That’s not a risk i’m willing to take. Rest assured that you will never receive an email from my husband Dan… in fact if he dared email my list he would be in big trouble! 😉
Thoughts? Does anyone else find this icky?
Do you have an email marketing strategy that really bugs you? Would love to hear it…
