This is something I hear quite often in talking to coaches about “why they want to hire a VA/Business Manager”
“I just want someone to take care of all that stuff, so I don’t have to/don’t want to”
DOING! My little red flag always goes up when I hear this…
Why? Cause there is a possibility that this person may not really want to be in business.
There are basically only 2 types of work in the world:
1. Work that you do for yourself – business owners, entrepreneurs, etc
2. Work that you do for someone else – employees, contractors, etc
If you take a look at the coaching industry right now there really is only one option for *most* coaches, and that is to be a business owner. There simply aren’t that many jobs out there for coaches (yet).
Like it or not, that is the reality of our industry.
And in providing business support and management services for coaches over the past few years one thing has become abundantly clear. If someone wants/tries to pass off too much of the responsibility of their business it will simply never grow or will fall apart.
I’ve seen it time and time again, and have *tried* to work with a few clients who saw the world this way. And it took me a while to figure out what the issue was and why things weren’t working. They were trying to pile all the responsibility for their business onto me as the business manager.
Now don’t get me wrong here, I totally get that a big part of the business manager role includes “shouldering” a part of the responsibility for the business. But it does not including shouldering ALL the responsibility.
Working with a high end VA and/or business manager is a partnership, not a “take care of this so I don’t have to”-ship. There is a fine line here, and it can be hard to see at first.
If you find yourself literally really disliking and avoiding many aspects of your business *on a regular basis* you may want to take a step back and ask yourself “why”? You may just be tired, overworked or stressed, all legit reasons. But if this is a persistent thing for you than maybe you shouldn’t be in this business at all?
Something to consider…
