Sometimes, as virtual support professionals, we get caught in a trap. I was at Andrea Lee’s Wealthy Thought Leader Event and one of the questions she posed for a session of the conference was: “What do you NO?” or “What do you need to NO? (can’t quite remember the exact phrasing.. but the intent it the same) This is a great question… one that has actually stuck in my head now for almost a year…
I had an opportunity come across my desk this week and, quite frankly, I knew I could do the work. I knew I could jump in, ‘fix’ it all, save the day and it would be ‘easy money’. But (isn’t there always a but?) it would have been time-consuming and ultimately, neither the work nor the client, fit into my ideal clientele or preferred support. So I said no.
Don’t get me wrong, this was not an easy process. Sometimes saying no is the hardest thing to do! But, as Andrea encouraged us all to realize, was that everything you say NO to, you get to say YES to something you want to do, something that fits your business goals, working with your ideal clients, only doing what you truly desire to do…
I cringe to think of how many virtual support professionals build their businesses by saying YES to all the things they do not want to be doing.. then never get to the point of truly enjoying the value they offer their clients.
So my question (though stolen from Andrea Lee): What do you need to NO?
