So true, I agree. Even big marketers seem to make this mistake and as Leesa said, it happened to me that these emails "register" landed in my inbox and I got confused and annoyed about it.

Congrats on having your hubby join, this is AMAZING.

Looking forward to meeting you at SHINE.

Hi Tina,
Another option with Infusionsoft is to remove the TAG, and the stop (and remove) from the marketing SEQUENCE as part of purchase (or registration) ACTIONS. Requires planning up front, but is a sure way to stay on top of things and look like a pro. Yes, I love Infusionsoft! ;)

Oh yea Leesa, totally forgot about setting the "unsub from" rule in 1SC - even better, then it's all automated. woo hoo!
And cool re: Aweber too Ginger - thanks for that. Been a while since i've used Aweber so good to know that works there as well.

Hi Tina,
This is a pet peeve of mine too!

I use Aweber for my email marketing and use the Automation rule to automatically subscribe or unsubscribe to and from lists.

The key is to mindfully set up your segmented lists properly from the beginning.

Here here (or is it hear hear?)! I recently registered for an event and got confused when I got an email saying that I needed to register. When I emailed the host, she replied saying that my seat is secured and apologized that I got the autoresponder (AR) series for those on her list who haven't bought. Then guess what? I got yet another marketing email encouraging me to register.

This causes frustration for the buyer, but it also drives up your costs as the seller. If every buyer has to contact your helpdesk wondering why they're being encouraged to buy what they already bought, then the seller's VA or OBM has to spend time searching through systems to answer the buyer's question. That time translates into dollars, so it's really a good idea to segment the list as you suggested Tina.

In 1ShoppingCart, when you set up an AR for the buyers, you can indicate which ARs to unsubscribe them from. For example, if I had a waiting list AR for a homestudy program that I'm about to launch, I'll create an AR for that product that'll contain only buyers, then click on the waiting list AR that they should be removed from should they buy the program. Along with your steps above, this is another you can also ensure that your buyers are being encouraged to buy something they've already bought.

Great idea on the 1ShoppingCart. I do something very similar. I do as well create a separate list, and in the autoresponder setup for the "program" I click the checkbox to unsubscribe from the other list. Then I only send messages to that other list, and as people buy the program, they are automatically unsubscribed from that other list.

I did a test run of what you suggest...and I can see it's benefits for segmenting after the fact. Brilliant! Thanks for sharing.

This is such great advice but I'm not using either of these, just good ol' aweber. Any ideas for a segmenting workaround on that?

Tina - thank you for the post and YES this seems to happen more and more... hence the need for VA and OBM education and helping those online businesses with what a Certified OBM can do to help them with their clients experience.

Yes do love InfusionSoft for all it can do when set up properly!

Again, thank you for all your posts and service.

Tina -- Thank you so much for this. And thank you especially for listing the instructions so those who don't know how to segment their lists can learn. I, too, get annoyed when I have to weed through emails promoting a product or a call that I have already purchased or registered for. I don't appreciate the email clutter.
