Hey Sarie – sorry for the delayed response (we just moved hosting companies and I fell behind on comments, doh!) If you are working with a control freak it can be a tough thing to deal with – and yet you do have to do something or otherwise it will suck the life out of you at some point. I would have a conversation re: “it’s really important to me that i’m able to take work off your plate, and I know that you’ve asked me to help with X and yet it seems to keep coming up for you. how can we set this up so you don’t have to worry about it anymore?” sometimes it can be as simple as having a conversation, maybe you need to get a system in place so he can see what is going on, etc. you may need to ask persmission to give him a loving “slap on the wrist” to let go of things as well in the future. bottom line – i would rather see you deal with this and potentially lose this client vs. having to continue the way it is now… that doesn’t serve you and ultimately doesn’t serve your client either in the long run. I haven’t been through the video series about Confessions of a Control Freak – but the outline you did in this article is really applicable to business owners and VAs as well. I wanted to level up my being a VA however, what advice could you give that because of the Control Freakness of your boss, you fail to accomplish some of the items outlined. I feel that if I outrightly inform him that’s not the way to treat your team, might lose my job. Hehehehehehehe.

I agree with PJ. I really appreciate this post esp now that I run a multi-VA business of my own. Its hard to find a team mate or colleague that will fit my needs and now that I have good quality VA’s on my team, I find myself smiling half way across your post. With a huge sense of relief and pride that I have a team I can depend on.

You have dug deep and provided a detailed tool that helps business owners understand the true benefit of having having great assistance in eliminating overwhelm in their business. I’m sure many of us (Virtual Assistants) provide most (if not all) of the services and benefits you identified, but don’t think to verbalize them as you have so adequately done. Thanks.
