These are hard decisions. T stay and fight through, simply because you need the money or to release and believe another more ideal client will come.
I have listened to dozens of Online Business Managers battle this very quandary over the past 6 years. When they share with me how they have over-communicated what they need to be successful, when they have pushed for automation to minimize mistakes, when they have had the boundary conversation time after time, but nothing really changes. The client is set in their way, it is who they are, and even if they want to change, they simply are not doing it.
So what to do? Continue in a relationship that causing you the highest level of stress, causing you to know longer enjoy your service… no I don’t think that is the right answer.
But here’s the thing… dump and running isn’t the right answer either. This is what we hear from the other side, the business owners…

When I talk with potential Online Business Managers, the first thing I want to know from them is “What services do you want to implement on a daily basis” ie: what will make you love your services and love your clients?
The answer to this question is imperative when you are building a service based business. Specifically if you are a virtual assistant or online business manager. I personally am not a fan of the ‘maintenance’ mode of a business. If day in and day out I had to spend all my time doing recurring tasks, copy / pasting replays, etc… I would likely loose my mind. Simply put, these are not services I enjoy. Are they needed in the business? Absolutely/ These tasks are vital to the health of any information marketing business model. The goal for an OBM is almost always to find a way to wash, rinse, repeat. But if I have to ‘do the doing’ of it, forget it!
Knowing what I enjoy and how I am created to best perform in the business really helps me LOVE the services I provide. And it allows me to love working with my clients. The sense of satisfaction in my work is a key indicator of whether or not we can build a successful business in the virtual service business model (OBM’s, VA’s, bookkeepers, social media specialists, etc…) No one wants to sell a service they do not enjoy performing.
I have experienced this time and time again within my own business. Being willing…
Yes, yes, yes! The good ole methodical system…this is key folks! The key to EVERYTHING online business success: Systems I get that it’s not always that sexy to talk about processes, automation and systems. But sexy or not it is the foundation of what any predictable success must be built […]Read More
If I am being completely honest our team would not consider me the most creative person. When a ‘creative’ needs to be produced someone else on the team is doing it. Specifically as it pertains to graphics. My creativity doesn’t flow through pictures or vision. Even to the point that […]Read More
One of my husband’s favorite quotes is: You get what you inspect not what you expect! As a leader there is really not a truer statement.. but as an OBM we have to be purposeful to ensure we are inspecting our teams execution and performance. Working with virtual professionals creates […]Read More
Can I just start by saying confidence is not arrogance. I feel like there is such a negative vibe around being confident. When you think of confident people do you automatically think of the most arrogant person you know? Confidence is not what you are doing (or saying) but who […]Read More
Online Business Managers do not always think of themselves as the innovators of the business. After all isn’t it the business owner’s responsibility to come up with the content, programs, ‘next best thing…’ Yes… as it pertains to the ‘what’ of the business, as it pertains to what will be […]Read More
EVERYTHING in the online business world revolves around having a solid planned out strategy. Of course, we like to say the Online Business Manager is where strategy meets implementation! So with that in mind, it’s only natural one of the key attributes to being an OBM is strategy. Strategy, as […]Read More
Leadership is a bit of a loaded word. Often when we talk about leadership, we are talking about the person every one ‘sees’. Because of that, Online Business Managers do not alwaysassociate ourselves with being leaders. After all, we are the behind-the-scene folks and we like it that way… the […]Read More
